Applications now open for 2026/2027 Summer Clerkships

Henderson Reeves offers a three-month paid summer clerk programme to law students in their final years of study. Clerkships typically run from November to February, with a three-week break over the Christmas/New Year period.

In 2026/2027 we are excited to offer four summer clerk positions – three based in our Whangarei office, and one based in our Auckland office. Summer clerks become a valued part of the Henderson Reeves team, with active involvement in real-world matters. As a summer clerk you will contribute your ideas and knowledge, undertake research, draft legal documents, attend staff and client meetings, and sit in on Court hearings and conferences – all alongside our experienced and friendly legal team.

A summer clerkship with Henderson Reeves will give you:
– Hands-on experience across a wide variety of legal work
– A feel for what it is like to work in law, and a feel for Henderson Reeves as a firm
– Mentoring and professional development for your future career
– Access to our Directors and senior lawyers
– Opportunities to join in our social events through the summer
– Connections with your fellow clerks, colleagues and young lawyers’ groups

Ideal candidates are dedicated, ambitious and personable. You see clients as people first, treat confidential information with respect, take pride in producing high-quality work, are open to learning, and able to have a laugh with our team. You will be a current law student in your penultimate year of study, and have the right to work in New Zealand.

Applications close 5 May 2026. Applicants who are shortlisted will be contacted by our team for a phone call and interview. Apply now by sending your CV and cover letter to and
